Road Trip

This is my first time sailing in the District Championships and I planned on getting to SSA early so I could get use to the club and make sure the boat was ready to go.  I picked up the boat at 7:30 am this morning at Tidewater and brought it home to work on it before leaving for Annapolis around noon.   Unfortunetly, I did not leave the house until 4pm and arrived at SSA around 5:15. The Suburban ran well and it was an uneventful trip.  I pulled in and picked a space by the lift closest to the clubhouse. I quickly walked over to Annapolis Performance Sailing before they closed at 6 to pick up some bungee cord for the spin pole foreguy which needed to be replaced.  Upon arrival back at SSA, Steve Constance greated me and welcomed me to the event and Jason Werner pulled in a few moments later and the two of them assisted me with raising the mast.ssa

I took a break for dinner when my college roommate Dr. Adam Cohen dropped by and took me out to a nice Mexican resturant.

Upon arrival back at the marina I met up with my forward crew Jen G. and we proceeded to tune the mast.  It took us a little while to get it done but I think it looks good.  Jen headed off with some college friends and I proceeded to replace some bungee cord around the mast.  It looked like a simple job, but for some reason the topping lift is not working.  It is double ended and for some reason all the line is on the port side and cannot be pulled back to the starboard side.  It was getting late and the light was not very good so I headed off for Chesapeake Harbor to stay on Steve and Jen Eller’s (college friends) Catalina 42 with AC.

 We made it to SSA

Cheasapeak Harbor is awsome,  this is my first time, and Steve and Jen’s boat Swim Lessons is very nice.

Catalina 42

I wish I had arrived in Annapolis on time – I probably would have had the topping lift fixed by now.

RC sailboats are the most peaceful way to enjoy radio control boating. This way are also the hardest rc boats to master – with a nitro or electric model boat you can just open the throttle and blast round the lake.

Thanks
